We were intrigued by this newly opened café along Jalan Besar as it was open on the evening of Christmas Eve. It was pretty empty when we arrived and hence we found a good spot to settle ourselves down.

The Café was located along the row of shophouses... |

Looks Cozy... |
The décor of the café was rather simple - in hues of grey and white. What attracted us most was the hand-drawn wall paintings of cats. Also, the place reminded us of warehouse with ladders used as décor on the ceilings.
|
Ladder and Light Bulbs Design... Very Warehouse-ish |
The place was well-lit with spotlights as well as Christmas lightings. The furnishings were kept to its bare minimum in my opinion as there is nothing fanciful about them besides the wall paintings.

Our Number Tag: #1 and the 4 Screws on the Table |
I almost spilled the drink due to the 4 screws on the table. I was trying to slide my Iced Tea over to Sweetie Muffin when it got caught on the screws.. Having a smooth surface for tabletops is still more friendly in my humble opinion... Meh!
Le' Menu
As Christmas was round the corner, we were presented with their Christmas Menu and Set Meals together with their usual Menu.

What We Ordered
We Ordered Hot Cinnamon Milk and Patsy Mojito Iced Tea for drinks, Half Spring Chicken with Garden Salad for mains and 2 Mommahero (Original and Milo Flavour) for desserts.
Also, we saw the portion of Mushroom Soup served to the table beside us, we heaved a sigh of relief that we did not order that.. (Yup, so mean)

Where's Our Food?!!! |
Before we commence on reviewing the food, I would like to touch on the level of service provided to us first. As reflected on the receipt, we ordered our food at 8.20pm but only our drinks were served whist we waited till 9.00pm. Getting rather impatient with the waiting, Sweetie Muffin questioned one of the staff and she said she would check on our orders. A couple of minutes later, another staff approached us and ask if we would like to have our desserts served - Sweetie Muffin got really pissed and exclaimed that our Mains have not even arrived and he still has the cheek to enquire about our desserts!

Taking a Selfie whilst waiting for our foodies to be served... |
We waited for a couple of minutes before the lady boss - Peggy came over to apologise and explained that our orders have not been captured by the system and she gave us a small bottle of Hot Cocoa Mix to appease us. Hence I rated their service 2/5 (one point more).
We were still pretty upset that our food got served really late as we were famished by the time it arrived. Moreover, we were shivering from the cold under the aircon for more than half an hour without anything to warm ourselves besides the cup of hot cinnamon milk :(

The Cinnamon Milk was served in a frothy texture and it helped to warm our palette. We loved the fragrance from the cinnamon as well.

The drink tasted bitter at the first sip due to the tea. However as we drank further, there is a refreshing minty taste about the tea besides the tangy taste of mojito. Not bad!

The was an earthy taste about the chicken. The texture of the chicken meat differs from the chicken I have tasted in the past. It does not have the tenderly smooth texture and full-bodied taste that KFC Chicken possess (sorry for using KFC Chicken for comparison but that is the taste that most of us would be familiar with). Instead, the meat kind of dispersed into shreds when you chew it. Kind of dry :( I would strongly recommend you to try the
Rosemary and Lemon Chicken from Joan Bowen Café instead - and it only cost you SGD10 with an additional mashed potato served alongside with the garden greens!
I only enjoyed the Garden Greens actually.. LOL

MommaHero: Tiramisu in a Jar! |
Yes, the presentation of the tiramisu is exquisite. After all, it was the first time we tried eating tiramisu from a jar.
Other special features of the Tiramisu served (besides in a jar) includes:- Contains No Eggs (i.e. EGGLESS)
- No Preservatives and Artificial Colouring / Flavouring but can last for one month if stored in the freezer
- Made with Heavenly Combination of Premium Espresso, Kahlua, Sreridam and Mascorpone Cheese
- Contains 2 different textures of ladyfingers (Savoiardi)
- Contains a layer of Espresso-Flavoured Cheese
- Portable and Convient ~ ideal for picnics and gifts
|
Original Flavour |
|
Milo Flavour :) |
We could taste the cream and ladyfingers (sponge cake) rather distinctively - I thought the tastes should be blended together or perhaps the ladyfingers fail to absorb much of the cream... Hmm... Anyway, the Original flavour one was full of the coffee aroma (and quite bitter) too whereas the Milo one was slightly milder and sweeter. I personally prefer the Milo one as I am not much of a coffee lover.
Overall
We felt that the food was overpriced as they tasted mediocre. We have to go to the counter to order rather than have a waiter come over to take our orders. Plus the orders got messed up even after we went over to place our orders. So I wonder why do we have to pay 10% Service Charge?!
|
Le' Total Damage! |
We will still return to buy their MommaHero for giveaways as they look exquisite but we will not desire to dine there again as it simply lacks the *WOW* factor.
