Yes! This is the last wedding of 2013 which Da Rabbit has attended and I'm attending it with Sweetie Muffin ♥~

Conveniently located near to Bugis MRT and within Bugis Junction Shopping Mall (Please read my previous blog post about shopping @ Bugis Junction if you have not done so: http://musings-of-a-rabbit.blogspot.sg/2013/11/le-new-bugis-junction-part-i-shopping.html), InterContinental Hotel is one of the historical building in Singapore which preserves the Peranakan heritage.

As the couple wanted to keep everything simple, only their close friends and relatives were invited and hence I will be less critical in my review as it is not fair to review on this judging that there were only 10 tables in the banquet as compared to the standard ones held in the Ballroom comprising of more than 20 tables.

Le' Ambience

As mentioned earlier, InterContinental Hotel is a luxury 5-star hotel which preserves the Peranakan heritage. Hence, the building itself looks grand and imposing. Also, I do love their interior decor and furnishings too :)

Dish #1: Double Happiness Combination Platter

Roasted Duck, Prawn Salad, Spicy Jellyfish, Marinated Sea Asparagus Clam, Chicken simmered in Chinese Rice Wine

I quite enjoyed the platter. The jellyfish was really bouncy and appetising, so as the other ingredients which came along with the platter. Tasted better than the one at Marina Mandarin (Refer to my previous review: http://musings-of-a-rabbit.blogspot.sg/2013/12/marina-mandarin-hotel-wedding-banquet.html).

Dish #2: Thick Soup of Shredded Abalone, Dried Seafood and Yellow Chives

Instead of the usual Shark's Fin Soup, this soup was being served as an alternative ~ great at least we have saved some sharks in the process :) This soup was really starchy but tasted fine with vinegar and pepper. If you have read my review on Ah Yat Abalone, I suffred from abalone phobia due to indigestion from that huge piece of abalone that was consumed previously. Hence, I was pretty skeptical about eating abalones ever since. However, my paranoia was eased since the abalones served were small and hence is easier to digest :)

I spotted a BABY Abalone!

Dish #3: Deep-Fried Australia Scallop coated with Mashed Taro

This dish tasted so-so in my opinion as it is not so friendly to those who dislike eating yam.

Dish #4: Braised Sliced Mexican Sea Whelk and Flower Mushroom in Superior Oyster Sauce

Again, this dish was super starchy and has a very very strong mushroom taste. Stay away from this dish  at all cost if you dislike mushrooms. The huge flower mushroom was a little to tough for consumption :(

Steamed Red Snapper in Traditional Hong Kong Style

I hated the fishy smell from fish dishes, but the chef managed to remove the yucky fishy smell from this dish with the soya sauce, gravy and ginger. Hence, I was amazed and surprised that I could actually finish my portion of fish!

Man Fu Yuan Signature Crispy Chicken

This dish was so-so and somewhat acceptable in my opinion.

Stewed "Ee Fu" Noodles with Straw Mushroom, Shrimp Roe and Yellow Chives

As expected, I disliked this dish as the noodles tasted soft and soggy. I prefer a springy texture for noodles. Moreover, it is too starchy for me :(

Sweet Cream of Japanese Sweet Potato with Yam and Crystal Sago

Yam is like a love and hate thing. Either you love it, or you'll hate it. Desserts is very important as it completes the entire meal if it tastes great. I was really skeptical when I saw "yam" being mentioned in the menu for desserts as yam and sweet potato can be considered as staple food and are starchy in nature. You do not want to be bloated with the desserts after consuming 7 dishes before that...

Yet, I was surprisingly pleased with this dish as it did not taste as bad as I have imagined. The portion was just right, the dessert tasted slightly sweet (but not too sweet), and the yam plus sweet potato combination was not too overwhelming either. Hence I was overall pretty satisfied with the food served.

Le' Service

The service was inefficient. They took more than 30 minutes to set up the room, leaving the guests to stand outside the function room for nearly half an hour due to some technical faults in their Audio Visual System. Further to that, the AV still sucks as the microphone was not functioning properly at times when the emcee was delivering his speech.

In addition, the speed of serving the dishes was sluggish. The dinner ended at about 11pm due to the delays here and there, notwithstanding that the next day would be a working day. Also, we were made to stay seated in our seats doing nothing whilst waiting for the next dish to be served - what a torture... Meh~

Overall

Thank You Happily Ever After Cup
Wedding Souvenir from the Couple

I can consider a stay-cation at this hotel but not entrust the staff to host my wedding banquet there - so, there is one more hotel off our list for consideration!

Nonetheless, we would still love to wish Alaric and Qianting and joyous and blissful marriage ~
