Sales of Balance Flat, May 2013
As mentioned in my previous post (refer: http://musings-of-a-rabbit.blogspot.sg/2013/12/sales-of-balance-flat-2013.html), we applied for SOBF in May 2013 and got a Queue No. which was double the existing supply of flats in Seng Kang.
We were all anticipating to receive the results of our application of SOBF in November 2013 when I received a letter from HDB last night. It was quite a thick chunk of papers stuffed in an envelop.
When I first read the cover page of the letter, my eyes glimmered with HOPE.
The letter says:
"We refer to your application to buy a 5-Room / Exec Flat in Seng Kang. You are invited to attend the flat selection exercise at our Sales Office, Atrium 1st Storey HDB Hub, on 14 January 2014 at 10:15 am. Your queue position for selection is XXXXX. On your arrival, please obtain a queue ticket at the Reception Counter or the Self-Service Queue Ticketing Kiosk... ..."
I was so overjoyed when I saw the first page the moment I got home. I have hope! I am invited to select our flat - our very first home of our own!! I called Sweetie Muffin to tell him that I received this letter then I went to have a shower thinking that we have got hope for the new year...
After taking my shower, I excitedly read the letter and the set of documents in greater detail.
Point 3 Says:
"We would like to highlight that this invitation does not ensure that you would be able to select a flat. Whether you are able to select a flat will depend on the availability of flats and ethnic quota when your turn is due. Please check the flats availability and ethnic quota before coming for your selection appointment"
What are the flats available in Seng Kang? Good question. Hence I flipped to the back and found the "Updated Flat List as at 26 December 2013".
Oh crap! The verdict is that this is THE LEFTOVER OF ALL LEFTOVERS!!!
By the way, why are the prices so cheap you wonder? You might want to refer to this article @ http://www.h88.com.sg/article/Fernvale+Lea+review+part+2%3A+Site+layout+and+best+units/ to find out more. The Fernvale Lea is considered the WORST location among the BTO launches and the article commented: "The location is bad, few units get unblocked views, it's not even near the LRT station and you have to walk some distance to get to basic amenities like eating houses and grocers. The price may be low but we believe …"
So little choices and all units are 5 storeys and below - we will be nearer to ground level and be exposed to the dust and noises from the roads, if any.
Moreover, our targeted wedding date is first quarter of 2015. These flats are available only in 31 July 2016 - We would be without a house for more than 1 year!! How can we ever select this?
So what are the implications if we do not select the leftovers?
We arrived at point 5 of the cover letter which states:
"Please note that First-Timer Applicants who turn down a chance to select a flat in the Build-To-Order / Sale of Balance Flats exercises will have the additional ballot chances (if any) accumulated from their past unsuccessful Build-To-Order attempts considered to have been used up. In addition, first-timer applicants who turn down two chances to select a flat will have their first-timer status in the balloting removed for a one-year period when they participate in any subsequent HDB Sales Exercise."
OK, HDB I really salute you for giving me the false hopes and now you are forcing us to swallow the leftovers with the threat of revoking our additional ballot chances...
I really HATE you HDB for ruining my start of 2014 like that!!!
