How Lucky ~~~

Amoy has lots of good food at really cheap prices too! Amongst the many of Da Rabbit's favorites is Ipoh Hor Fun located at level 2.

Brief Introduction to Ipoh Hor Fun

Ipoh is a city in Malaysia where this dish originated. Ipoh is famous for its cuisine and its food culture is mainly driven by its Chinese population who are mainly of Hakka and Cantonese descent.

The term Hor Fun is a Cantonese (dialect) term which simply means 河粉 in Chinese or refers to the flat rice noodles prepared in hard water. Hor Fun can be prepared in various ways i.e. Penang style whereby it is fried with cockles, prawns and egg; Fried with a little dark gravy which is normally called Char Kway Teow (炒粿条); or the Cantonese style Wah Tan Hor (滑蛋河) whereby it is immersed completely in clear, egg starch gravy.

Therefore, Ipoh Hor Fun is cooked in the Cantonese style whereby it is immersed in a starchy gravy.

This stall is situated on level 2 of Amoy Street Food Centre and you will never miss it with its appetizing looking signboard and forever long queue. We queued for approximately 20minutes in order to purchase our foodie.. How good their business is!

Popular Dishes

#1 Crayfish Hor Fun

For seafood lovers. This is like the 'premium' dish of the stall as it costs S$6 and above depending on the portion you order...

#7 Fried Fish Dumpling Hor Fun

Da Rabbit's ALL TIME Favorite! I always order this whenever I patronize the stall as I feel that the crispy crispy fried dumplings complements the starchy starchy gravy of the hor fun perfectly! You can either order the S$3 or S$4 portion - the difference is that the $4 portion has 1 more fried fish dumpling and slightly more hor fun in it... The fried fish dumpling is served with mayonnaise as dipping sauce (you must request for the sauce, otherwise the busy staff might forget to provide!). The dumpling is crispy on the outside and the filling is richly stuffed with fish meat... YUMMILICIOUS!!

The Hor Fun doesn't taste too starchy and it glides down your throat very smoothly together with the gravy. The gravy has a light herbal taste to it and the chef used mushrooms and Chinese medicinal herbs like Angelica Sinensis (commonly known as Dang Gui) to prepare the gravy!! Dang Gui is commonly used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for gynecological ailments, fatigue, mild anemia and high blood pressure. Dang Gui has another nickname - which is "female ginseng"! How precious and good is this herb!!

Overall

I will continue to patronize this stall and recommend it to my peers as it is really value for money for the flavor of Ipoh ♥♥
