Birthday Celebration 2014
My third birthday spent with Sweetie Muffin thus far. And the first spent as legally married couples.
So, what is so special about this occasion?
Nothing much. I spent my day doing some shopping on Taobao and updating my blog and took an MRT down to Promenade as Sweetie Muffin said he made a reservation at Marina Square.
But first, lemme take a Selfie :) |
So I did spend a little bit more of effort in dolling myself up for the dinner because I wanted to take some photos to commemorate my birthday because I would be 1 year wiser by then.
Sweetie Muffin bought a dining Groupon (but not Ah Yat Abalone this time) for Western Cuisine @ Three Bistro Singapore.
Restaurant Name: Three Bistro SingaporeFacebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/Thr3ebistroLocation: 6 Raffles Boulevard, #01-07/08 Marina Square, Singapore 039594Tel: 6338 8644Operating Hours:Mon to Thurs, 10:00 - 23:00Fri and Sat, 10:00 - 13:00Sun, 11:00 - 23:00
Groupon will be a good alternative especially when you want more value for your money (although not always true).
This time round, the offer is almost half price for a decent 4-Course Western Set Meal *WOW*
The Groupon Deal is still on, you can purchase it HERE.
Sweetie Muffin opted for the SGD29.90 one as he had "Round Two" planned.
As usual, he is full or weird ideas for his surprises but it wouldn't be another round of proposal for sure.
Muffin enjoyed serenity in his dining experience, so he chose this bistro for private dining.
Indeed, the bistro was empty except for the both of us - it seemed as if he booked the entire bistro for the evening ~ how exclusive!!
We were each presented with a set of menu to browse through.
I was told not to eat too full as he had "Round 2" in mind but was unwilling to reveal what was that *FINE*
Drinks Menu |
The drinks menu was rather extensive but too bad they don't serve Bailey's in their cocktails :(
Hence we ordered Mango Juice instead.
SGD33 Chef Special Set Dinner |
SGD55++ Set Dinner ~ This is the menu we would be ordering from |
We can choose our mains either "From Sea" (meaning Seafood) or "From Land" (land creatures).
As I am not too fond of the fishy taste, I would not want to ruin my birthday mood by ordering a fishy tasting dish and hence opted for Beef as my mains instead.
Sweetie Muffin on the other hand, opted for Chicken.
We also ordered both desserts offered under the menu to try.
Mango Juice (SGD5++ per glass)
Mango Juice came with a very tiny cherry on top. Looks kind of weird because I haven't seen such small cherries for ages!
Mango Juice (SGD5++ per glass) |
The juice was rather diluted due to the ice but overall still OK.
Cream of Mushroom with Cheese Croutons
Cream of Mushroom with Cheese Croutons |
Sweetie Muffin commented that this soup tasted good and I agreed.
However, I think they can still put more mushrooms in the soup to make it richer as it is pretty runny.
The cheese crouton tasted great after it absorbed the moisture and taste from the mushroom cream :)
Wild Rocket Salad and Cherry Tomato with Balsamic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Whoa! This is a very healthy dish full of greens!
They could have added more cherry tomatoes or other ingredients into the salad to make it taste less 'grassy' and perhaps cut the leaves up a bit because it was pretty difficult for me to stuff the leaves into my mouth without looking unglam *MEH*
Overall the taste of this is good just the they could have reduced the portion of the leaves.
Love the cheese flakes on top though ;)
From Land: Rosemary Beef Striploin with Chocolate Cream Sauce served with Cajun Roasted Potato
I think the plate is big but looks a tad too empty.. LOL.

This dish looks pretty artistic but I was pretty turned off to see the 'grass' at the top right hand corner after eating the entire bowl of grass earlier.
The Cajun Roasted Potatoes tasted good - not too dry and not too soggy.
I had my beef well done. The texture was still rather tough for my personal liking - I would still love the beef from Wild Honey (so far that's the best I've tasted).
The Food looks BIGGER than myself! |

I preferred Sweetie Muffin's Chicken to my Beef and hence ended up eating half of his portion whilst I donated most of the beef to him.
The Honey Mustard Sauce made the dish very appetising and the chicken meat was tender and good ;)
However for unknown reasons, I felt that the mains kind of reminded me of the set meals served by Astons which came with 2 sides of our choice. Sweetie Muffin gave me his ultra MEH looked when I told him that *Oops*
Desserts Time!
Home-made Chocolate Brownie & Classic Italian Panna Cotta |
YAY! My favourite round ~ desserts!!
Home-made Chocolate Brownie
The Chocolate Brownie tasted warm and moist and we liked it lots.
However the ice-cream serving was a little small (for an ice-cream lover like myself).
The ice-cream had a very strong vanilla taste which I did not particularly like as well.
Classic Italian Panna Cotta
The Panna Cotta tasted too sweet to my liking.
It had the Tau Huey (Soya Beancurd) texture (but slightly more solid) and the mixed berries on top was rather sour.
I was already 100% full after this meal to be frank.. The sweetness from the desserts made me bloated from the meal.
Overall
The service was undeniably superb as the staff would walk over to check for our feedback from time to time.
However, I felt that we would not visit this place during normal days because the menu prices are a little too steep if we were to dine without the Groupon deal, not to mention that I actually preferred the taste from Astons still. Would suggest them not to repeat serving the greens in the mains since salad was already included in the set.

Round TWO
I know some of you might be curious what surprise Muffin had planned for me after the dinner.
So.. In order not to disappoint you guys, I shall flash the 'surprise' below:

TADAHHH!!
So, THAT was the SURPRISE!
Sweetie Muffin actually went to pre-order a customised ice-cream cake for my birthday after I commented that I have not tasted an ice-cream cake yet. He is indeed the SWEETEST Muffin in the whole wide world!
He even got the baker to make the Brown and Cony Couple Tee Sticker for the cake décor!
And the sides came with tiny colourful stars ~ Awwww ~~
I made a wish upon the stars, hoping that it would come true...
I couldn't bear to cut the cake because it looked pretty and I did not know how to cut it.
If I were to dissect it vertically, the Brown and Cony would be separated - hence I decided to dissect the cake horizontally instead.
One last photo of the cake before I cut it... |
To be frank - the first moment when I saw the cake design, the first thing that came into my mind was PAPER EFFIGY!

The Brown and Cony looked too 2D that made me think of the paper effigies *LOL* (noooo ~ don't strangle me Muffin)
Not so appealing as it looked.. The cake actually cost almost SGD100!!! *OMG*
Anyways, the cake was frozen solid and would not budge when I tried to cut it. Hence, Muffin had to cut it with the metallic Butcher's knife instead.
Also, the fondant was extremely sweet as expected to the extent that the Oreo Ice-cream inside tasted insipid.

However, I really appreciated Sweetie Muffin's efforts to make my birthday a special one.
LOVE is the CAKE under the icing. The IMMATURE lick it clean and throw the rest away;ADULTS scrape off the top and eat it dry- Muackable Quotes
Thanks Muffin, for adding colours to my life and making my birthdays less boring.
I really appreciate your efforts to be romantic and would like you to keep up the good job :)
GOOD JOB! Muffin! |
