A Taste of Taiwan in the Wild West
Never been to Taiwan but would like to taste and feel a wee bit of Taiwan?
Then you can visit Lee's Taiwanese in the far West of Singapore - The Star Vista.

The Star Vista is a joint venture between the New Creation Church and CapitaLand and the architecture design looks like Noah's Ark on the exterior.
It is envisioned as a complex with dining outlets, shops and a theatre which seats up to 5,000 pax.

We were actually exploring this somewhat new building (because we seldom travel to the west of Singapore) after our Sabbath Service and chanced upon this quirky looking Taiwanese eatery which caught our attention.
It seems that the eatery was encased in a cylindrical glass structure with red lanterns hung up high which makes the ambience rather imposing.
The interior décor looked somewhat retro which is a stark contrast from the futuristic architectural design of the building.

We somewhat browsed through the menu and found the variety of food offered was decent and the pricing wise was reasonable, hence we entered despite Kriston's mild objections (he wanted to have Coco Ichibanya for dinner but we stopped him because we tried it in Tokyo and Bugis+ already).

It makes a lot sense to order the Set Meals because they come with side dishes and drinks.

Was glad we ordered this drink because it tasted smooth and refreshing :)
Appetizers
Appetizers were served shortly after the drinks.
Sweet Potato Fries
The fries tasted OK but not enough plum powder in my opinion. And I still prefer the original Taipei's Version from Raohe Street Night Market as the oil used looked fresher somehow.

Golden Tofu with Taiwanese Kimchi
Surprising a delectable dish despite the looks of it!
Golden Tofu with Taiwanese Kimchi |
Tofu was fried to golden crispiness but tender inside and the sauce plus the pickled vegetables ("Taiwanese Kimchi") makes the entire dish very appetising.
Braised Beef Shank
This appetiser did not taste as good as the previous 2 to our disappointment but it was still edible.

Dry Yang Chun Noodles
This dish tasted savoury and it came alongside with a small bowl of clear soup :)
The noodles looked handmade and have more of a doughy texture as it is rather wide and flat. It doesn't taste soggy and it still has some chewiness in it and hence I pretty enjoyed this dish.
Boneless Golden Chicken Leg Rice Set
We were somewhat intimidated by the pieces of chicken meat placed on top of the bowl of barely visible rice.

However, this dish tasted the BEST out of the 3 despite the not so appealing looks of it.
The outer skin of the chicken was thin and yet very crispy and seasoned with pepper whereas the meat inside is tender and succulent.
Hence, the moral of the story is never to judge food by its appearance and presentation!
Taiwanese Burgers (4pc)

As Kriston is a fan of the Chinese version of the Pork Buns, he insisted that we order this dish to satisfy his cravings...
Kriston Le' Culprit |
To our disappointment, this was the Taiwanese version of the bun and it tasted rather dry as the Chinese version comes with a lot of braised sauce. Moreover, the herbs used to marinate the pork made the dish taste very different from the Chinese version which Kriston adored greatly.... *MEH!*
So the conclusion is that the Taiwanese Burgers were not to our liking after all.
Overall
We pretty enjoyed dining at Lee's Taiwanese and would recommend you to try this place out if you have cravings for Taiwanese foodie :)
