I had initially wanted to have brunch @ Wild Honey at Scotts Square on the first day of 2014. However... There were some problems with the kitchen and I was told to wait.

Feeling very hungry as I slept late and skipped breakfast, I wandered around Scotts Square and chanced upon this place at the basement.

I was first attracted by its cake display at the entrance and then was mesmerised by the turquoise seats in the restaurant... I LOVE TURQUOISE!!!

Delicious? Is it true?

Le' Ambience

Turquoise Sofa
I like the nostalgic reception area :)

The décor of the place is pretty quaint and it feels as if I have been escorted into a garden which is serene and blue. Also, there are paintings of empty bird cages on the wall and a physical cage hanging on the branch of the artificial tree with white bird figurines perched on the branches...

Bird Cages

Feels like Alice in Wonderland for a moment and the café was tranquil and cozy (perhaps that was because there was nobody around when I was there) whilst I enjoyed the ambience all by myself.

As I visited on 1 January 2014, I was offered a copy of their Christmas cum New Year Specials.

The Main Menu was printed on a piece of paper which was used as table mat. Frankly speaking, I do not like the idea as it is not very eco-friendly and also a waste of resources on the printing. I would still prefer seeing a proper menu with photos or perhaps they can print the menu on a sheet of plastic if they so want to use it as a table mat instead (at least it will be recyclable).

What I Ordered

I was staring at the dishes that were recommended by the chef like Duck Confit Spaghettini, Homemade Pesto Spaghettini, Napolicious Spaghettini, Hainanese Chicken Chop, Teriyaki Salmon Steak, Chicken Avocado Wrap and Cajun Fried Calamari. I chose the Hainanese Chicken Chop ultimately as I was curious how can a local dish - Hainanese Chicken turn into a western Chicken Chop. Also, as a Chai Tea Latte fan, I ordered their recommended Spiced Apple Chai Tea Latte as I have never tried that before.

Le' Food

Spiced Apple Chai Latte (SGD 7.00++)

It costs slightly more than Starbuck's Chai Tea Latte. I love the cinnamon taste and fragrance and the apple added a hint of sweetness in the drink. It tasted great and I enjoyed that pretty much.

Hainanese Chicken Chop (SGD17.50++)

doused with a Hearty Tomato Sauce

I was very disappointed when I saw the dish. It was totally not what I expected it to be. I imagined it to be the smooth and tender Hainanese Chicken like the one served by Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice or Chicken Chop served by Aston's. But... ... I was soooo wrong :(

The dish was FRIED! The entire thing was so fried till I could not even see the meat.. And, there was NO MENTION in the menu that it is FRIED. I felt so duped. But I think it was partially my fault as I did not clarify with the staff beforehand on what their so-called "Hainanese Chicken Chop" looked like.

The Tomato Sauce did not taste as fresh as Wild Honey's (of course we cannot compare with their Truss Tomatoes) but it somehow tasted like sweet ketchup. It tasted exactly like the sweet and sour sauce used to make another Chinese Dish - Sweet and Sour Pork (咕咾肉). This is an utter waste of my money.. I should've just waited patiently outside Wild Honey :(

Chicken Chop cushioned with green peas...

The Hainanese Chicken Chop tasted so jelak (a Malay term which means cloyed with an excess of something so as to cause disgust) and oily that I gave up eating altogether. I had no intentions of having desserts either. Yuck.

Le' Service

When I arrived at that place, only 2 tables were occupied by diners. However, I waited for approximately 20 minutes for my main dish after my drinks was served. Perhaps they were shorthanded as it was after all, New Year's Day itself...

Overall

I will patronise the place for its drinks and perhaps desserts (as I have not tried them yet) but I will definitely not order the Hainanese Chicken Chop ever again!
