It's Selfie Time! |
As the weather during year end was rather erratic, we were fortunate that the rain subsided when we arrived at The Punggol Settlement and hence we could enjoy the Al Fresco dining with the horizon as a backdrop.
As we were the first few to arrive at the venue (the place was rather remote and hence not so accessible), we had the opportunity to take a few photos of the surroundings :)
Don't you think the view is splendid? |
We were all served with a glass of chilled water whilst waiting for the other bloggers to arrive. When I got up to take photos, I thought I spilt my glass of water because the design of the glass was slanted =.=

The bistro was air-conditioned and rather cozy.
We caught a glimpse of the 2 busy chefs preparing for the food-tasting event.

Menu
We would be trying their signature dishes for the evening.
Food-Tasting Menu |
French Cuisine is well-known for their exquisite taste and pretty presentation (not to mention the small portion and exorbitant cost *rolls eyes*). If you think that you are going to travel all the way to The Punggol Settlement just to burn a big hole in your pocket, do rest assured because you will be getting quality food at an affordable pricing.
Take a look at their regular menu as a gauge for your dining budget:
I seriously think that guys can consider arranging a dinner date at this place because the pricing wise is considered mid-range and you can stroll along the beach afterwards.
It would be rather romantic to spend some quiet time together as couples.
As for the menu, I would highly recommend them to incorporate photos into their menu because not everybody can imagine how the dish looks like and hence it would be very helpful for noobs to French Cuisine like myself.
Appetiser - Bread
Moist, Warm Bread was served as appetisers.
I personally loved the raisins one. The butter one was rather fragrant too :)
Starters
Grilled Crab Meat Angel Hair (SGD11.90++)
Truffle Angel Hair topped with jumbo crabmeat infused with Chorizo Oil finished off with Salmon Roe

This cold dish tasted very good to my amazement.
It feels like a burst of flavours dancing in your mouth ~ *Awww*

Assorted Tomato Salad (SGD12.90++)
Medley of Fresh Tomatoes with Homemade Red Pesto and Burrata Cheese
Assorted Tomato Salad (SGD12.90++) |
The plate looked rather empty when this dish was served to us - perhaps they can still improve on the dish's presentation.

If you are a lover of tomatoes (like myself), you would be in for some excitement as you get to taste different types of tomatoes all at once!
The tomatoes tasted very juicy and sweet and I personally liked it a lot and I was thinking that they can include my favourite Truss Tomatoes to complete the dish as I really loved tomatoes ~
Nom Nom Nom.. My daily dose of anti-oxidants! |
I would still prefer Chilled Crab Meat Angel Hair as it contains a bigger WOW factor than the tomatoes dish. Also it is priced cheaper than the Assorted Tomato Salad and hence more value for money :D
Main Course
Horizon Pork 2 Way (SGD25++)
24-hour Slow Braised Pork Belly & Kurobuta Pork Tenderloin served with Roasted Cauliflower Puree, Vegetables, Grape Mustard and Black Pepper Sauce

Horizon Pork 2 Way (SGD25++) |
The meat tasted really very tender in view that it has been braised over a period of 24 hours! So much time and effort spent on producing good food!

King of The Sea (SGD22++)
Miso infused torched King Salmon and King Prawn on a bed of Assorted Vegetables Ragout
King of The Sea (SGD22++) |
We were told that all seafood was air-flown directly from Norway and no frozen seafood was used at all. This accounts for the freshness in their seafood ingredients :)
I personally prefer the King of The Sea to the Horizon Pork 2 Way as the seafood tasted very fresh and it is more value for money as well.

Dessert
Citrus White Chocolate Mousse (SGD12++)
Short Crusted Pastry Layer with Valhona White Chocolate Mousse, Lemon Curd, Orange Creme Anglaise, sprinkled with White Chocolate Soil
This is where Chef Louis' expertise is displayed!
He looked really serious when he was decorating his desserts.
A meal is never complete without satisfiable desserts!
Citrus White Chocolate Mousse (SGD12++) |
I enjoyed this dessert because it has a tangy taste of the lemon curd and orange creme anglaise.

Fig and Bacon Sabayon (SGD9.80++)
A unique combinaison of Candied Bacon and Fig Compote, with Fresh Berries and a scoop of creamy Vanilla Ice-cream, resting on a bed of Champagne Sabayon
Fig and Bacon Sabayon (SGD9.80++) |
I love candied haw but this is the first time I tasted candied bacon.
The candied bacon tasted sweet and hard on the outside and salty on the inside.

The combination was rather weird unique especially when the chef combines strong-flavoured ingredients together to make this dessert.
I prefer Citrus White Chocolate Mousse over this because I love the refreshing tangy taste from the orange and lemon combi. The blend of strong flavours from Fig and Bacon Sabayon is not for me although it is still worth a try as you might appreciate this better :)
Chef's Special
Garden By The Bay (SGD14++)
Fresh Strawberries and Kiwis layered by Vanilla Mousse, topped with Dark Chocolate Soil resting on Apple Compote infused with Cranberry
This was a newly invented dish by Chef Louis and it took us by surprise especially we were not anticipating one more extra dessert! I LOVE dessert, so I couldn't wait to try this new creation :)
Chef Louis planting his 'seedlings' meticulously |
Don't you think that guys look most charming when they are concentrating on doing something (besides playing games on iPad)?
Garden By The Bay (SGD14++) |
Chef Louis took some time to plant his 'seedlings' individually with a pair of tweezers into the 'soil' made of chocolate cookie crumbs.

Whilst we were exploring this novel looking dessert, I nearly flipped when Sihan (blogger for Fundamentally Flawed) exclaimed "Earthworms!" *Face-Palm*
Intrigued by the Edible Bonsai... |
Thank God I haven't placed anything into my mouth when she was at her prank. If not I might have spitted the soil out into Sweetie Muffin's face *Awww*
A mixture of Vanilla Cream with Cranberry Juice and Apple Compote was buried beneath the chocolate 'soil'.
I personally find this dessert too creamy and would prefer if they can replace the cream with something more tangy - like yoghurt or sorbet.
Enough selfies, start eating! |
Further to the above, Sweetie Muffin suggested that perhaps the restaurant should create some dishes that are beach-themed since the restaurant was located along the beach. Garden By The Bay might be novel but having something that is more themed towards the surrounding environment would be ideal in this case :)
Xmas Tree Selfies :) |
Overall
Horizon Bistronomy is worth a visit especially when you are looking for affordable and yet decent-tasting French Cuisine.
Nice Night View |
I will consider returning to this place if I have a car + chauffeur and when the weather is pleasant and not too wet :)
