Makeup Really MATTERS!
Learn How to Transform from Ugly Ducklings to Beautiful Swans
Let me begin with a light-hearted comic made up of LINE Stickers which was previously posted by Sweetie Muffin via LINE Messenger earlier:
LOL EPIC!
But will be damn emo when the makeup on our faces melt especially when we spent so much effort in doing up our faces in the morning...
Wedding Makeup + Hair Trial with Cynderella by Cynthia Oh |
After receiving many compliments for my makeup trial with Cynderella by Cynthia Oh, my girlfriends and I decided to take up a makeup lesson with Cynthia to learn how to beautify ourselves for functions.
Cynthia provides personal makeup lessons which are fun and interactive :)
We had our lesson held at Samantha's house as her living area is more spacious for Cynthia to conduct her lesson.
As different face shapes and face conditions require different treatment, I will not go into the nitty gritty to bore you guys to death.
My face is originally chubby and round whereas Samantha's face is rather square with defined jawline.
Our objective is to transform ourselves from THIS (see below)
This is our usual day-to-day look (with filter applied of course) |

Natural Flawless Korean Look (Image Credit: Google Images) |
Look at those Korean celebrities! They have amazing dewy looking skin that is so radiant and flawless!
#1: Skincare
We were told to apply our own skincare products as per normal prior to the makeup lesson.
Since we are used to our skincare products and are comfortable in them, it makes sense to continue using them right?
#2: Prime Your Face
As Tracy and I both have sensitive skin, Cynthia recommended us to use this ultra hydrating Makeup Primer from Smashbox. This primer can be purchased at Sephora.
Smashbox Hydrating Foundation Primer |
This functions similarly to ampoules and it is hydrating. We did not develop any allergic reactions to the primer at all which is a good sign :) Also, it makes our makeup last longer than intended.
#3: Apply Double Eyelid Tapes
For enhanced double eyelids and ultra big eyes!! 3M manufactures good tapes that sticks onto your eyelids all day long without hassle!
#4: Apply Foundation
I have used the Shu Uemura's lightbulb liquid foundation during my makeup trial earlier and am pleased that it blended well with my skin tone. Hence I continued to use that on my face.
We applied the foundation onto our face using our hands as our hands have some warmth which can activate the ingredients in the foundation to make it adhere to our face better.

Shu Uemura's The Lightbulb Fluid Foundation in #774 Light Beige |
Leave the foundation on your face for it to dry up and set.
It will blend into your skin better if you use a beauty blender (aka lightbulb).
For a dewy finish, leave it as it is. For a matte finish, you may dust some loose powder on your face.
Conceal blemishes on your face including dark eye circles!
This step is a must to prevent Panda Eyes afterwards.
To achieve natural looking eyes, it is recommended for you to apply eyeliner along your upper lash line :) Also, a soft pencil eyeliner (like KATE) is recommended for this.

#8: Apply Eyeshadow
Both Samantha and I are die-hard fans of the Coastal Scents Eyeshadow Palettes.
This session taught us how to apply 2 tones of eyeshadows on our eyes without looking messy :)

Also, Cynthia shared with us her personal favourite for eyeshadow palettes - LUNASOL ~
LUNASOL Eyeshadow Palette |
We liked the LUNASOL Eyeshadows as the powder is very fine and the pigmentation is comparable to Coastal Scents' too! Not sure if they are priced as affordable as Coastal Scents' Eyeshadow Palettes though...
One tip in applying eyeshadow is to use sponge tip applicators as they pick up the eyeshadow's pigmentation better as compared to using makeup brushes.
And... sponge tip applicators are very cheap and durable too (easily obtainable from Daiso at SGD2!).
#9: Mascara
Curl your eyelashes and apply mascara.
I am personally in favour of the Love Alpha's Fibre Mascara.
I have tried other similar mascaras like the Déja Vü Fibrewig one but nothing works as great as this in terms of lengthening and creating volume.
Love Alpha Leopard Prints Fibre Mascara |
Never a fan of waterproof makeup, it is very hard for me to find non-waterproof mascaras which can lengthen as well as the Love Alpha's. Not only does my Love Alpha Mascara lengthens and volumnizes with its fibre component, it is also clump free and smudge proof as well. Not to mention that it can be easily rinsed off with warm water! This is indeed my most fuss-free holy grail mascara :)
#10: Apply Falsies
Long eyelashes do open your eyes and they are very important although most of us including myself neglect this fact all the time...
Comparison between having eyelashes and NOT... |
Having a good eyelash glue is very important if you want your falsies to adhere to your eyelids at all times under all circumstances.
Cony using XYZ Brand of Eyelash Glue |
One recommended brand would be DUP's Eyelashes Fixer Ex.
This glue is transparent and dries up clear. Hence it is super user-friendly for noobs like us :)
Oh yes, you may curl and coat your falsies with a coat of mascara to ensure that it "glues" to your real eyelashes too.

#11: Reapply Eyeliner
After sticking your eyelashes, you may apply eyeliner above your lash line.
This time round, we chose to use our all-time favourite liquid eyeliner from Heroine Make :)
This eyeliner is smudge proof but can be easily removed with warm water.
Also, it produces a shiny jet black finishing which we like a lot :)
#12: Apply Blusher
Apply blusher on your cheeks for a healthy flush of colour.

#13: Contouring
Yes, that is the only way to make your face appear more defined by applying shadows to areas you wish to hide and highlights to places you want to protrude. Makeup is all about the art of optical illusion :D
Cynthia recommends using a foundation which is 2 shades darker than your usual for shading and white eyeshadow for highlighting.
ARGH.. I spent $$$ on buying a shader and highlighter loh :( And they are both not cheap.

#14: Lips
Yes, you may now apply your lip gloss / lipstick.
As I used to have dry chapped lips, I am in love with Christian Dior's Lipstick range as they are creamy in texture and do not cause my lips to peel.
I chose to wear the Dior Addict Lipstick in 530 for that natural finishing.

#15: Eyebrows
This is the most time-consuming and difficult step. But.. It is the most crucial step as Korean Eyebrows are the soul to most korean makeups. They define you like no other ~
It is soooo difficult to draw eyebrows that will balance.
Notice the huge difference between having defined eyebrows and not having eyebrows?
We used eyebrow pencil to outline our desired shape then we filled it up with pencil and eyebrow powder (or brown eyeshadow) accordingly. We applied brown eyebrow gel to set everything into place to obtain a more natural look.

One "special tip" from our teacher - PRACTICE!!

Overall
We are all very happy to have Cynthia to coach us on putting on makeup. She is very professional throughout and taught us with great passion.
Also, unlike many other service providers, she does not do any cross-selling. In fact, she recommended us to make full use of our existing cosmetics and only give her earnest suggestions when we sought her opinions of a certain makeup product.
Learning under her makes it a very interactive and stress-free session for the 3 of us.
However, we do feel a little weird not looking like our usual selves in real life after applying all the makeup although we looked stunningly beautiful in photographs on the contrary. LOL.
