Top of the World Dining @ Spuds & Aprons
Ever wondered how will it feel to dine at the peak of a mountain and enjoy the top of the world dining experience?
It is a pity that Singapore does not have very tall mountains but Mount Faber is considered good enough for that elevated feel.. LOL.
Kriston and I decided to visit Spuds and Aprons at Faber Peak for brunch on a glorious weekend morning and we actually called to make a reservation as reservations are highly recommended according to online reviews.
Getting there can be a challenge especially when we do not drive and are not willing to spend the extra bucks on the cable car rides which is something most tourists would be doing. Hence we thought of a new solution - we took an MRT to Harbourfront Station and flagged a cab from VivoCity Shopping Mall... and.. guess what? The cab fare up was only SGD4++!

Le' Ambience
We opted to dine at The Garden (outdoor area) to enjoy the breeze on a hot sunny afternoon and to explore the outdoor area as well. The decor of the dining area is rather colourful and we kind of enjoyed the sky view outside ;)

The view was splendid and there was also a "Bell of Happiness" for us to take photos with and also to ring it. I think the sound produced by the bell did brighten our day somehow!

Le' Service
|
Chilling around whilst waiting for food to be served... |
We were told that our dishes need 20 minutes to be served but we waited for over 40 minutes and had to bug the staff before we finally get to eat. As this was supposed to be our brunch, we were famished and worn out from all that waiting by the time our dishes were served.
Joy Punch (S$8.00++)
Lemon Juice, Lime Juice, Orange Juice, Pineapple Juice, Grenadine
The Joy Punch tasted refreshing and light :)
Don Pedro (S$13.00++)
Whiskey, Bailey, Milk, Cream, Vanilla Syrup and Ice-Cream
I like this! It is very rich in flavour (not to mention very fattening) and you really get to taste the Whiskey and Bailey in the drink!
Wicked Fries and Gravy (SGD8.00++)
Steakhouse Cut Spuds with 6 Types of Cheese and Brown Gravy

|
How Soggy and Wicked!!! |
We were ultra disappointed with the fries as they are very soggy. I think the cheese fries served by KFC tasted way better (and cheaper too).
|
Best Soggy Fries Ever!!!! |
Braised Lamb Shank, Provençale Style (S$25.00++)
Murray Brudge Lamb Shank Sloshed with Red Wine, Slow Cooked and served with Garlic Confit. Served with Mashed Potatoes too.
|
Braised Lamb Shank, Provençale Style (S$25.00++) |
This dish tasted really bad. The gravy used tasted very similar to the one which KFC used for their whipped potatoes. Also, we had soggy potatoes overdose from the Wicked Fries earlier and hence felt disgusted instantaneously when we saw mashed potatoes served with this dish.
|
Sorry to say but.. We really dislike this dish! |
Also, the carrots tasted super duper HARD! Although I'm a rabbit, that doesn't mean that I enjoy my carrots RAW... Duh!!!
|
Posing with the Lame Lamb Shank... |
Braised Five Spiced Oxtail ($22.00++)
Wagyu Oxtail Rubbed with Five Spice and Braised for 3 Hours. Served with Mashed Potatoes too.
|
Wassup with that bright RED pot?? |
|
Braised Five Spiced Oxtail ($22.00++) |
This dish tasted slightly better than the Lamb Shank but the base of the pot was filled with mashed potatoes as well ~ We got pretty sick of eating nothing but potatoes seriously... The gravy was salty and perhaps serving it with rice would make it taste better to make it less saltish.
|
Too Jelak.. Haix! |
In conclusion the dishes we ordered were too jalak (Malay adj. satiated by a food, particularly a food that is too rich, to the point that one feels repulsed by it) for our liking.
|
Le' Unfinished Food :( |
Le' Total Damage
|
Total Damage? SGD89.46 for 2 pax!!! |
Overall
The taste of the food falls way below our expectation and it is overpriced - perhaps we should just order the more popular dishes instead.
In fact, we ordered desserts but cancelled our orders as the main dishes did not taste good and the time taken to prepare the dishes were way too slow.
We will return only when we wanted to enjoy the sky view but will not order their main course - might enjoy the nice view over drinks and desserts instead.
