Cook & Brew, The Westin Singapore

Farewell Lunch With Colleagues

Have worked in the Asia Square Tower for a good 11 months but has yet to slow our pace down to enjoy the scenic views that the building offers.

Hence, have decided to do lunch with colleagues at Cook and Brew located at level 33 of The Westin Singapore.

I tried to make a reservation earlier online but was rejected as the quota for online reservation has been met. Hence I was compelled to call the receptionist to make a reservation.

Le' Ambience

The décor of the restaurant cum bar is somewhat classical and nostalgic.

We were greeted by a row of leather bar stools along the bar counter as we entered before we were being ushered onto the long leather bench at the inner corner of the premise.

Michael helped me to take a selfie @ the bar counter near the entrance ;)

Also, the restaurant is surrounded by full length windows which overlook the sea (and the construction site as well) which was really splendid!

The long bench where we sat...

We love that Rustic Green Sofa!

Amazed that they used denim for Napkins...

Le' Food

START the Feast now!!!

Food Spread
Too elated to see our food after the long wait...

Angus Beef Carpaccio (SGD19.00++)

Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Caramelized Onion Jam, Caper Berries, Red Mini Radish Salad

Willy ordered this dish thinking that it was a main course but was shocked to see the pathetically small portion served (this dish was grouped under the "Salads and Soups" category).

Angus Beef Carpaccio (SGD19.00++)
According to him, this dish tasted not too bad but it is a little too overpriced for an appetiser.

A tad too overpriced...

Steak and Egg (SGD15.00++)

Pan-seared Angus Tenderloin, Roasted Potatoes, Pancetta Ham, Grilled Roma Tomatoes

This dish was categorised under "Breakfast" on the Menu.

Steak and Egg (SGD15.00++)

Overall, this dish tasted great but the major letdown was on their sunny side-ups. We are particularly obsessed with sunny side-ups served with perfectly runny egg yolks but as you can see from the photo below, the egg yolk on the right was already hard and dried up. Meh!

Close-Up

Dogs of The Day (SGD22.00++)

3 Hot Dogs, Sauerkraut, Steak Fries and Pickles (They change the dog daily, ask which one is available)

 This item was categorised under "Best Bites" section of the Menu.

Also, if you have noticed the description provided under the menu, 3 DOG[S] (plural) was mentioned  but Simon was disappointed to see only ONE hot dog being served in a bun resembling the ones served by IKEA.

Misdescription on the Menu

Moreover the "Steak Fries" mentioned on the menu were NOT being served at all! OMG!!!

Cook & Brew, The Westin Singapore
Woof Woof Woof !!! ;(

Ultra dissatisfied by the misrepresentation on the menu, Simon confronted the staff to feedback to them on the printing error on the menu and the staff simply dismissed him off by saying that he was not the first one who complained about it. We were disgusted by their nonchalance - they should at the very least try to amend the description on the menu by pasting a white tape over it (should reprinting the entire set of menu be too costly).

Moreover, paying over 22 bucks for an IKEA Hotdog Bun is definitely not worthwhile at all, not to mention that it is not filling for a man's appetite.

 The Burger (SGD19.00++)

Melted Cheddar, Crispy Pancetta Bacon, Fried Onion Rings, Fried Egg Sunny Side, Steak Fries

The Burger (SGD19.00++)

This dish is somewhat more decent than the "3 DOGS" earlier. According to Edwin, the taste is acceptable too (although we do not see him weeping in joy to have eaten something so heavenly).

Looks YUMMY!

Cappuccino (Hot)

Victor ordered this for drinks and commented that they should've served the Cappuccino in a cup instead of a glass like that.

Have a Cuppa :)

Almond Nougat Ice Cream (SGD14.00++)

Praline, Caramelized Almonds

Almond Nougat Ice Cream (SGD14.00++)

This dessert simply tasted wonderful! The crust is so Magnum-like and the caramelised almonds complemented the pralines perfectly~ This is indeed soo heavenly.. Its a pity that the portion served was pretty small :(

Sweet Decadence :)

Pancake Stack (SGD9.00++)

Fresh Market Berries, Whipped Cream, Maple Syrup

Tasted better than Macdonald's Hot Cakes with more expensive ingredients like berries incorporated and topped with a dose of whipped cream on top.

However, Willy suspected that the berries were not rinsed before they were served as we observed that there was a whitish coating on the berries. Ewww~

Sheer Indulgence...

Le' Service

The staff is polite and courteous and even asked us for feedbacks of the food and everything after we were done with eating. However, they do not take feedbacks provided by their customers seriously in the case of Simon's 3 Dogs which was appalling.

In addition, the food took very long to be served (we waited for over 20 minutes) and it is not a good sign for us who are entitled to only an hour's lunch break.

Overall

Not all dishes served tasted fantastic with some confusions and misrepresentations on their menu which made us feel rather cheated at the end of the day.

However, we might just return for the ambience, the scenic view and the desserts :)
