[Advertorial] SIGNATURE BRAZILIAN WAX
It's been a week since I have had my waxing done @ Pink Parlour.
To be honest, I was really skeptical when I was invited to do a review on their Signature Brazilian Waxing service because I have NEVER ever been waxed before (and never have thought of doing any waxing), not to mention to wax at the sensitive area where Brazilian Wax is to be done.
After ensuring that the therapist is an experienced female and researching a little on Brazilian Waxing, I took up the challenge and mustered my courage and accepted this invitation as there is always a first time to everything :)
Why Pink Parlour?
The main assurance in choosing Pink Parlour to do your Brazilian Wax is that they provide high level of Personal Hygiene and Protection:
- All therapists sterilise their hands using hospital grade sanitiser that removes 99.99% germs before each treatment
- Disposal Face Masks and Gloves are worn at all times by the therapists to prevent any possible contamination
- Clean Towels are used upon each visit (dirty towels are being treated by hot water and cleaned with biodegradable chemical before sending back to the salons)
- Strict NO Double-Dipping Policy (to eliminate possible contamination to wax pots)
- Equipment is meticulously cleaned and soaked in sterilising alcohol and hospital grade disinfectants for over 5 minutes
- Tools are carefully packed into individual sterilisation pouches and stored in UV lamp cabinets for further sterilisation
My Experience
I chose to do my first waxing at Serangoon NEX outlet because it is nearest to my house.
I was greeted by their Senior Manager - Fairoz and he ushered me to change into a pair of comfy neon pink slippers.
The décor was full of neon pink stuff and was really girlish.
Making my way into the Salon... |
Then, I was served with a cup of hot peach tea which was really comforting especially during this cold rainy season :)
For all first-time customers, we were made to fill up the mandatory set of questionnaires on their iPad.
The set of questionnaire was rather lengthy but it was a good process to undergo because it indicates whether you are a suitable candidate for the treatment or not. You wouldn't want to spend your money on something which is detrimental to your body right?
Things to Ensure:
1. You must be period free (it's not good to do treatment when you are still 'bleeding' - common sensical)
2. Unshaven for the last 3-4 weeks (there is a minimum hair length for the wax to 'grab')
3. Min Hair Length is at least 1 - 1.5cm long
------------------
Of course, the questionnaire ended with a disclaimer and we have to sign in order to agree with the terms and conditions so as to proceed with treatment.
I was then showed to my treatment room to put my bag down and to grab a towel for a quick wash-up. The treatment room was rather small and the cabinets were occupied with stocks, hence I ended up putting my bag on the table where the hot wax was placed instead.
Although the room was small, it was still cozy as the décor was too glitzy to miss! Contrasting Zebra Prints Bed with the bright pink kitty plush.. Soo princess-cy!!
So it is mandatory to clean the area where Brazilian Wax will be conducted. To be fair, the therapists have sterilised their equipment etc, so we have to sterilise ourselves so as not to stink in front of our therapist right?
The shower facility was a small cubicle located at the innermost corner of the salon. There was barely space to walk about but as long as you get to clean yourself, who cares?
Also, one important tip is that it is highly encouraged for you to pee before you enter the salon. You might have the urge to pee (or even shit) if you get those butterflies in your tummy especially during your virgin visit there. So, you know what to do right?

Receptacles where the Hot Wax would be stored and heated |
Ohh I love that Glass Bowl Basin! LOL |
The therapist assigned to me was this lovely lady named Amy.
As the bed was too high for me to climb up, Amy kindly pulled out a stool and helped me up the bed.
Then, after knowing that it was my first waxing experience, she assured me that everything would be in her good hands and there is nothing to be shy about.
She even offered me the kitty plush toy to squeeze hug so that I would feel less uneasy. Amazingly, that really did help to ease the tension by a lot!
Heated Wax - its PINK!!!! |
Amy then went over to open the lid of the receptacle to reveal a pot full of heated pink wax. WOW even their wax is PINK! It kind of reminds me of Tubby Custard *LMAO*
Time for Tubby Custard!!! |
She then dipped a flat wooden stick (looked like an ice-cream stick) into the hot wax and started to apply the wax in sections. The wax felt warm when applied onto the skin but it was not scorching.
As she applied the wax, she ensured that all hair was being tugged in the direction of hair growth and I felt that my hair was somehow being pulled.
Then, the moment of truth came when she announced that she is going to pull out the strip of hardened wax from my skin. . .
She counted to 3 as she pulled the strip of wax in the direction opposite of hair growth and I exclaimed "OUCH" as I winced in pain. Who says waxing ain't painful? If you have been plucking your eyebrows or epilating your body hair, you would have discovered that the first time you ever plucked them was the most painful. The pain reduces each time as your skin adapts to that sort of torture stress applied.
However, Amy knew what to do about pain management. She quickly pressed firmly down on the area where she just tugged the wax with her palm to reduce the pain and it really did help. The pain experienced were more significant on the top section. As Amy progressed to the inner sections and back, the pain experienced was lesser to my surprise.
The kitty plush toy that braved through the pain with me - Good Kitty!! |
We also chatted about our jobs in order to distract my attention towards the pain experienced. It was then I realised that all therapists in Pink Parlour multi-task - they are capable of doing manicures / pedicures for customers as well as waxing and alpha-light treatment for permanent hair removal. So, kudos to them to be able to survive in such a fast-paced beauty industry!
Another tip is to establish good rapport with our therapists as I felt that I was lying in the operating theatre where I handed my life to her ~ (OK, that was exaggerating)
Judging that the therapists have to do so many things in a day and it is not pleasurable to see people's pubic hair and filing elephant feet all day long (you know what I mean), it is inevitable for them to have some mood swings as they are humans too. So we have to make them like us so that they will treat us like their esteemed customers and do their utmost best to serve us (although it is also true that serving us is part of their job).
OK so after peeling all the pink wax, Amy went to touch-up her work by manually plucking off the finer hair that was not uprooted by the wax and then applied a soothing tea tree enriched lotion onto my skin. Actually I couldn't be bothered and wanted to get over and done with the procedure because it was rather painful (my threshold of pain is not so high). However, Amy was very meticulous to ensure that I step out of the treatment room smooth and bald underneath *LOL*
I was amused that I was presented a certificate afterwards. I'm a Brazilian Wax Survivor *YAY*

Overall
Posing with my therapist - Amy Chope her quick if you want a good Brazilian Waxing experience! |
My experience with Pink Parlour was good as my therapist - Amy has been very professional with her service and she tried to engage a conversation with me in order to foster mutual trust and reduce the awkwardness throughout the entire session.
However if given a choice, I would have chosen to undergo the permanent hair removal session instead as it is more painless in my opinion. Waxing only offers a temporal solution to hair removal and it is quite a hassle to undergo the same somewhat painful process almost every month and you have to wait for your hair to grow till 1-1.5cm long in order to qualify for the waxing.
I must admit that I enjoyed the after effects of the wax as I felt fresher and cleaner than before. It felt as if I have returned to my carefree pre-puberty stage :3
Post-Treatment Care Booklet - Please read in detail!! |
After-treatment Care is important so as to prevent infection and growth of ingrown hair.
It is highly encouraged that you avoid from bathing in warm water (only use cold water) at the area you have just waxed as warm water opens your pores and will irritate your skin. Also, avoid swimming, cycling (activities that rubs against your wee wee), wearing tight clothing in the next 24 hours.
Any redness should subside within 2 hours.
On a side-note, I have also enquired about their Alpha Light treatment and asked them what is the difference between this verses the famous IPL. The competitive edge Alpha Light treatment has over IPL is that the discomfort level is greatly reduced as you will only experience hot / cold sensations when the light was applied on your skin instead of the 'piak piak' sensation of being flicked by a rubber band arising from IPL treatments (why never invite me to do Alpha Light at that area sia? LOL).
I think I will consider the Alpha Light option if budget allows :)
